Al Snyder's son, Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder, was killed in combat in Iraq in March 2006. At Lance Cpl. Snyder's funeral, Fred Phelps and Westboro Baptist Church protested as a means of publicizing their message. The Supreme Court will hear the case in the Fall of 2010. On March 19, Michael Smerconish interviewed Al Snyder about the case.
@Jenny1blackburn Unfortunately the rule of law protects even the most 'radical' groups and that was exactly the purpose of the First Amendment to the US constitution. Words and words alone on a public right of way on an issue of political relevance cannot be legally silenced just because some or many people disagree with such words. The whole idea of protected speech is to protect speech which may be considered to be extreme, outrageous or controversial, not speech which everyone agrees with.

He's no hero. The Iraq war has nothing to do with defending the country but it's all about OIL.

I wonder whose side the anti-war movement and their friends Olbermann and Maddow will take.

he gharrlam...yes freedom of speech is what you are arguing for so I will have some free speech of my own. You are an idiot, how dare you doubt a slain Marine to be an American Hero. He gave his life for you and you dare speak ill of a deceased boy who fought and died for his country. You argue for your ammendments and I will support a young man who gave his life for YOU and myself. He deserved a proper burial and this radical group took that away from him.

I hope with all my heart that the Supreme Court looks at this cases as a cases about people and judges on favor of Mr. Snyder.
(I've also never commented first on a video before- very cool:) )
