  • good teacher but why iwama teachers always talk about modern aikido and why it is no good, those speeches are really boring and have no value.different people, different reasons to practice aikido.where i live the closest iwama dojo is 200km away so i think its normal that people in my town don't practice iwama ryu and that's only the practical side.

  • sory for delayed answer, just got back from Iwama. there is no easy answer to this, but if you train for mor than 5 years in Aikikai, then go to some uchi deshi seminar(if you can) to Iwama, Portugal or France if you are in Europe, and you will know why...

  • This is the MOST excellent video on You tube regarding aikido...regards fr Indonesia

  • Mehmet San, follows the practical line in Aikido.

  • As far as I know up to 3rd Dan level, you should practice solid base, this is what I saw as practical or Goshin Level, up to that, practice become more flexible and nagare.

I saw on other video Mehmet san is in upper level too...This also apply within Yoshinkan.

  • You are correct. I do not know about Yoshinkan, in Iwama Ryu, Ki no nagare starts after sandan.

  • @psmental85 Iwama ryu aikido is Saito shihan's aikido, not O sensei's plus Aikido is not to be written in books. Of course Doshu Kisshomaru changed aikido: it needed to be codified precisely to be practiced in countries so far away from Japan. We must remember, though, that even O Sensei's aikido was changing and evolving until the last day he lived. That's why I don't believe in Iwama ryu: is a limitation in itself. However it's better to practice aikido than don't! Let's be free to choose ;-)

  • @sardinianwestcoast life to spread this. For that reason he left behind many books that he had written. I grew up watching Doshu return from keiko to study and write for long hours and even with my child's eyes I could see the importance of this work"

This clearly states that the former Doshu made changes to O-Sensei's Aikido.

The Aikido as taught in Iwama strictly follows the techniques and way of Aikido as left to us by the founder.

This was handed out to participants of saito's seminar

  • @sardinianwestcoast The following translation is an excerpt from an article of AIKIDO SHIMBUN; the official newsletter of Hombu Dojo. The article titled "To the spirit of the past doshu" was written by Moriteru Ueshiba dojo-cho for the January 20th 1999 edition of Aikido Shimbun

"The techniques and way of Aikido that the founder O-Sensei left us, was not always easily understood by everyone. Doshu, my father, changed these so they would be easily understood, and he gave all of his

  • Excellent. Thank you, very much.

  • Look up on Morihiro Saito Sensei being vindicated and presented a book, now known as Budo. This proved that Saito Sensei was indeed teaching O'Sensei's Aikido, as opposed to what others thought was not O'Sensei's Aikido. Not getting into an argument but mearly presenting historical facts, you'll find it on Aikido Journal, it's a interesting read.

  • @kokyutengu I'm not new to this kind of speeches too. That's because Iwama ryu students usually think they possess "the Truth". So silly. There is not truth in aikido because aikido is a research. O Sensei started it and modify it from day to day. Saito shihan used to do his own aikido (not O Sensei's) as other shihans. Therefore I invite not only Iwama ryu students but all aikido students to look for Endo, Tamura, Hosokawa, Benedetti, Tiki Shewan, VDB (only a few names) teachings.

  • Great video. Instructions on the basics of movement and blending in aikido are the best videos. All the action techniques get so much exposure anyway, even in the dojos.

  • he is realy master. look when uke start to push, he parametly back his arm. This was like in push hands. Its mean this sansei is really know whats akido means. Sometimes y can find on youtube films about free fight of akido. And mostly all " masters " start to fight with akido. They just start to atack with akido technics. but good technics is like water or wind. Just go with flow
