Putting the PS1 & Saturn versions of Street Fighter Alpha 3 side by side.

I want to start off by saying the PlayStation Port of Alpha 3 is a fine game & some of the best work Capcom ever did for that platform. Although it's inferior to all the other console ports of Alpha 3, it was never a "bad port".

Ok, now I can talk about how awesome the Saturn port was with a clear conscience ^_^

1. Character animation is a little smoother.

2. More/better stage background details.

3. Fighters have full idle animation on the select screen.

4. All characters & modes are available to the player straight away so no need to unlock anything.

5. No loading screens, one when you first start the game then that's it

6. Better opponent AI, I find the Saturn game to be the harder of the two

7. The Colour seems a little brighter, taking advantage of the Saturn's richer colour palette.

8. There is no better pad for playing street fighter than the standard Japanese style (Model 2) Saturn pad. Capcom copied it for its special edition Street Fighter controllers for the PS2 & those Madcatz SFIV Fight Pads for the 360 & PS3 are based on it.

To expand upon point #2 the best example of the difference in background detail would be Bison's stage, here the two versions look very different indeed. The rain is the most obvious difference, being a background layer on the Saturn & a foreground layer on the PS1. Next would be the sky, the PS1 has a flat image of clouds while the Sat has a big wavy skull!

  • may I point out the obvious flaw in the Saturn version being the... er... lack of english?

  • @Popkov123 ..................................

  • Ehh, just play the Dreamcast version? It's better than both. Lol

Good comparison, but if you want the best version in general, just get a Dreamcast.

  • @gokujr93 The Dreamcast version has bad hit detection & unless you have a couple of DC Arcade sticks (which are immensely expensive these days) you will have no fun at all, because if my memory serves me correctly the DC's D-pad was dog shit. Lol

  • Another thing we can't forget here is how awesome is the Saturn controller for 2d fighters. The best d-pad ever made + six-button configuration = WIN.

  • @CervantesXV See point 8 in the video description ;)

  • Both of these ports are actually better than the original arcade version of this game because there are more selectable characters to choose from that are not in the arcade version. Examples are T Hawk and Balrog, they were not in the arcade version.

  • @gokujr93 THe correct answer is to play the anniversery collection.

  • @HumorousLOL You know this! Trolls gonna troll though.

  • @keironewoodgate LOL @ language barrier. Damn gonna have to pull out that Japanese to English handbook to bust out those Hadokens eh? I swear some people say stupid shit to piss other people off. Japanese is now a flaw even though the game is an ahem.. Japanese game.

  • @SegaFanatic5188 fair enough

  • @Popkov123 You don't have a point. Its not a flaw you pointed out, its the way the game was made. SF3 wasn't released on Saturn in the US. The flaws only apply to gameplay aspects anyway, not language ones. You even considering Japanese as a flaw is a facepalm. Say you were joking and we won't continue thinking you're an idiot.

  • @Popkov123 I'm pretty sure in World Tour mode they have icons to tell you that anyways. So if you know what the icons mean you don't need to read it.

Also, the true meat of the game is Arcade Mode, Vs Mode, And Dramatic Battle Mode. World Tour is just a fun novelty.
