Is it rational that the dead can communicate with the living and give sound advice on how they should live their lives? What about sticking pins into your body to free the flow of Chi energy and cure your illness? Or the bending of spoons using your mind alone? Is that rational? Richard Dawkins doesn't think so, and feels it is his duty to expose those areas of belief that exist without scientific proof, yet manage to hold the nation under their spell. He will take on the world's leading proponents in their field of expertise, meet the victims who have used them and expose the history of the movements -- from the charlatans who have milked these practices to the experiments and testing that have failed to produce conclusive results.

The Enemies of Reason Part 1: Slaves to Superstition
Richard Dawkins (2007)

Prof Richard Dawkins tackles the epidemic of irrational, superstitious thinking which is blotting the light of logic and evidence. After garnering tips on psychics' entirely earthly trade secrets from the illusionist Derren Brown, Dawkins attends a seance and confronts the medium. Time and again, the interviewees appeal to personal revelation or second-hand anecdote to justify their belief.

  • This guy totally generalized every aspect of this piece. And ps... All those great philosophers/scientist he named at the beginning were known for using occult practices to gain the very knowledge he so pompously throws around. Way to bite the hand that feeds you....

  • in the words of physics professor brian cox 'astrology is a load of rubbish'

  • When dawkins is irritated, or thinks something is incredibly stupid, he blinks really quickly.

  • look like smuged ink

  • not being aware that this video was by richard dawkins, my first impression of the man and his theories, up until the point where it said his name on the screen, is that he is a rather frightened man, terrified of his insignificance, and feels threatened by the presence of these so called 'dangers' and that he appears to want us to act like vulcans. many of these superstitions ARE culture, so they can't threaten it!

  • HAHA aura photographs! Those machines actually just run an electric current through your body that just brings out the outline of whatever is being photographed in a neon glow, in the case of humans it also captures a cloud of perspiration around the person.

So in reality, auras are nothing more than good old fashioned sweat.
