  • The greatest actor(actress?) of China!

  • @Snowsaberish He was an actor famous of playing female roles. Back then it was a taboo for women to display themselves in public, hence there were no women in opera troops. See the link I added in the description about him.

  • What language is this?

  • That is in Cantonese, a dialog of Chinese.

  • Thanks. Do you think if i learn mandarin i could understand Cantonese as well?.....

  • No way Jose.

Many Mandarin speakers tried to learn Cantonese, and not many succeeded. Some say if they read the subtitle while listening, they could get the most parts, but not all.

On the contrary, many Cantonese speakers pick up Mandarin with no problem. Since Mandarin is the official Chinese dialect, people are more motivated to learn.

  • I think that it's so difficult to let Americans love or understand Peking Opera, even young Chinese themselves today. But when I became older, I feel that I can much more enjoy it.

  • @cplai Many thanks for your reply. I knew he is a man, I just doubt if it's still correct to use "actor" to describe "旦角", "梅派青衣" in particular. Well, I think it's a little complicate. Thanks anyway.
