Here's the first startup of my Suzuki Samurai with a VW 1.6 Diesel. Sorry about the blackout for a few seconds. Left the phone sitting on the radiator and it fell over.

  • Yup they were transverse mount

  • what was the donor vehicle for the swap

  • @yotehunter308 The engine came from a Jetta.

  • The Stock 1.3 is good for off Roading or whatever, but as far as highway/freeway speeds go...It was a BAD idea. Underpowered. Struggles to go up steep inclines.

  • @69in89 Have you owned one? They aren't all that great...

  • Samurai have a good long lasting(!)1litre engine, but this VW/Audi dieselengine is more economic to drive.. ,.

  • @fiat850super The stock Suzuki 1.3 and "good long lasting" aren't terms typically found together. With the diesel it still gets about 22mpg with the large tires and a heavy foot.

  • Very cool!

Been driving VW diesels for 25+ years.

What kind of MPG do you get with the Suzuki now?

Does the turbo give it plenty of power for hills?

  • arent those motors transverse mounted though?

  • i love the diesels
