The world-renowned contemporary dance company Hubbard Street Dance Chicago performs Blanco by HSDC Resident Choreographer Alejandro Cerrudo. Set to "Music for Underground Spaces" by Chicago Symphony Orchestra composer-in-residence Mason Bates, Deep Down Dos realized its orchestral premiere in April 2010 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. This work is inspired by the imagery and sounds of tectonic plates, crystalline caverns and blazing infernos. Cerrudo uses this unique music as a palate of inspiration to create a piece that is infused with dynamic energy and offers a visual compliment to the score. The dancers played a major role in Alejandro's rehearsal process for this work -- he presented an idea to them and would see how each dancer's personality affects the way they played with it. Alejandro has tremendous faith in the dancers' ability to use their instincts during both the development and presentation of this work. "My choreography for this piece is primarily based on the dancers' feeling the progression, changes, and intricacies of the music." -- Alejandro Cerrudo. More info: www.hubbardstreetdance.com
