ISS February 22, 2005. I shot this in the city of Lynnwood,Wa to show people that yes you can see the ISS with the naked eye. Even being within the city lights. You can see the ISS your self by first visiting http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/
Select the country then your state or providence. Then you will see a chart that shows you the LOCAL Day and time,DURATION of sighting, MAX ELEVEAVATION, APPROACH DIRECTION, DEPARTURE DIRECTION.It may look like a jet flying over head but there is a way to prove that is is not. First off when you first see it. It will appear to be a star becoming brighter. Then it will slowly start to move across the sky. You will not see and strobe or navigation lights. As it passes over your head it will be moving rapidly. Just before it disappears you will see it slow down and start to fade. Clear nights are the best but I have even watched it on a partly cloudy night. Once you see it a few time you can even impress your friends by showing them the ISS.

  • Finally got to see the ISS go over tampa florida last night. took all of 6 minutes to pass by. It was pretty cool. ( easily amused).

  • @phan2theart I think what make is more interesting is knowing that there is people living up in that bright object we call the ISS. I guess one could say, " I live among the stars." - 6 mins is a long time! Many times it's only viewable for about 2-4 mins. So you found the perfect day to see it. I hope you show all your friends the ISS as you did. Tell them Capt Jack gave you an order too! LOL!!!

  • How did u record this one?? I'v seen it but I really wanna share it with my friends but not able to do so.........

  • @oviyanilam I used a standard Canon Video Recorder with about a 300x digital zoom. It wasn't the best quality but its all I had in the day. Optical zoom is many times better but cost more for there is more optical quality glass lenses. Someday I hope just to use a telescope connected to a camera. I have friends that have such telescopes that I might be able to talk them into doing a recording for me.

  • this is grat. we used to get coordinates but were never successful.

  • @Wanch1e1ady Find a local Astronomer and they can help. Or just try again. You will assume its a jet at first but in time you'll figure out its not.

  • I saw it a cople of days ago, the first thing that came to mind was an UFO. I check the NASA sight and it confirmed that it was the ISS.

  • i saw it last night in the uk. it moved from the east right across to the west.

    quite fun to watch :)

  • @ThePoopoo098 Because, Jets have flashing lights, ISS has none. ISS is very bright, jets are not. I've been tracking this for years and know what Im looking at.

  • @tuberaider1000

lol, i dont know why but I feel the need to tell you your pun is appreciated.

  • How do you know that's not a plane or jet?
