Each Fall, certain areas in Hood Canal, Washington are plagued with low oxygen. Some years are worse than others, resulting in fish kills. Scientists are working to identify and find solutions to the problem. Oxygen levels can become so low that large schools of fish form near the surface, which has more oxygen. Some fish and invertebrates are not able to swim there, and die. The problem can persist for weeks at a time. This video was taken during September of 2010.
