This is a brief video of Tucker #1038 being driven at the 2008 Tucker Automobile Club of America, Inc. convention in Ypsilanti, MI (the location of Tucker creator Preston Tucker's Home and the site of the construction of the prototype "Tin Goose"). This also features TACA member Kit Fox's ride in the car that he won in the TACA auction before the car is due to be sold by RM Auctions in August 2008.
Background:
The Tucker was built in Chicago in 1948 by Preston Tucker. Only 51 cars were produced including the 1947 prototype "the Tin Goose" before Tucker was forced to cease production after being sued on charges of fraud. Preston Tucker won the trial, but production never resumed. Of the original 51 produced plus car #1051 assembled after the trial, 47 cars still exist. For more information on the Tucker and its creator please visit the Tucker Automobile Club of America's website at: http://www.tuckerclub.org/index.php

  • @Seattlecarnut

Check out the Skoda Rapide 130.

Very very cheap to buy in UK, i mean a roadworthy car for about £400.

And it can take a Porsche engine, now thats a cheap way to own a supercar.

  • Sure wish you guys would drop a couple hundred and hire someone who can actually shoot something that doesn't make the viewer seasick!

I mean really, even for free you must be able to find someone who doesn't make it look like an earthquake is happening.

    Aren't your cars worth it?

Sorry if that offends but it really is horrible video.

  • Hell of a car..

  • When I was in 6th grade I saw a movie about this car...great movie...

  • mill on the wheels

  • Preston Tucker was a man out of time. Still, some of his concepts are still way ahead of today. I remember reading that he wanted the tucker drivetrain to be a module unit. So if you have a mechanical problem with any part of the drivetrain, the service center had a loner drivetrain untill yours was repaired. It could be dropped out in minutes. This was thought to cut down on customer wait time for repair.

  • @apoypto I remember seeing a rear-engined Skoda when I visited Vancouver Canada. I remember asking myself "what the hell is that, and why was it never available in the USA?" It was nothing special, just a small car with the engine in the rear. Something I've never seen before.

  • @Seattlecarnut Didnt ever see a Tatra, but I remember in the eighties a neighbor bought a little Scoda. Wow. four cylinder rear engine with the rad at front. Man, they were long rad hoses. They were in the rocker panels, same as VW. Beetles channeled the heat. Not much power, and they did not catch on. Cheers, Apo.

  • @apoypto Porsche as well, or how about Tatra? Tatra made rear-engined cars with air-cooled v8 engines.

  • @Seattlecarnut Corvair? What about Porsche? That car sounds like a 1914 Gezachstehagen. I had one, but the coal bill was too high, and the wooden wheels kept breaking. Just joking, my apologies.
