David Hodges with Grant Construction makes short work of demolishing an old concession building at the Tri-State Fairgrounds Thursday December 29, 2011. A $500-thousand modernization project is underway on the Fairgrounds to improve the food the vendor facility, said general manager Virgil Bartlett(CQ). Removal of the old permanent food buildings that were in disrepair and causing health department concerns, will make room for a new 60 foot by 400 foot covered, open air, food vendor area. Food vendors will be able to build temporary booths and park food trailers under the new covered facility and there will be shaded picnic tables for fair goers. The Tri-State Fair has a tradition of big crowds during the noon lunch hour and we wanted to have more picnic tables with shade for the people. "We averaged about 42 food vendors during the Fair last year and this new modern facility will benefit everyone. The new facility can also be utilized for dances or other events," Bartlett said. The new facility will be completed sometime this summer, in time for Fair opening. Many of the old food vendor buildings were more than 40 --years-old. David Hodges said Grant Construction will recycle the majority of materials removed during demolition.
