  • Its not a dead end. Some lutes are tuned at 440 but simply in a different key from the modern guitar (eg top string is a g rather than an e). Also, if you played a baroque lute at 392 or other instrument at 415, it would not ruin your ear. You would simply hear notes differently than their theoretical 'names' on your instrument. So at 392 you'd play an 'f' but your old ear would think 'eb'. No big deal.

  • Sir, It would be useful to consider taking barroque tuning lessons, and then, upload a video of how to tune it.... ha..=D

  • I feel like the Cameraman has a gun

  • Nervous and insecure.

    Feel sorry for this guy.

  • Holy crap thats a crazy long tuning very confusing

  • you should just quit acting like a bitch and tune to A = 415

  • A few things here. 1) You should really suggest tuning all "A"s, "F"s, and "D"s first. 2) Only use a tuner for one pitch. They are quite inaccurate due to the amount of overtones coming out of lute. I understand it can be difficult, but I got pretty good at tuning a lute from one pitch by learning to get zen with my pegs the first week of owning my instrument (didn't want to be one of "those" guys). No excuse really to have an out of tune baroque lute if you learn to tune right away.

  • Yeah I agree with LutenistDeMari, its like middle eastern musicians who hear half steps and quarter tones. You'd just have more options and on the contrary, STRONGER more trained ears.

  • bravo file eisai poly kalos.

  • so what would one do if you play multiple instruments in different contexts and want to try a lute? having both 440 and 415 seems to be able to destroy your ear and 440 may break the lute if not to mention that the music will sound much different.. dead end is what it looks like
