This is the view from outside my prison cell. Today is January 1st 2012. And here in Kobe, Japan I am all alone beacause most of my Japanese friends, all of my Japanese friends want to spend the day with their families. And that leaves me alone, so I'm going to go out and go on a walk since it's nice and sunny out. And I want to go to the shrine. Although I'm not really religious... I guess I am a little bit Buddhist I guess. I kind of like Buddhism. I'm going to go visit the shrine just to enjoy the ambiance.

I wanted to show you something here. This is my jacket. Somebody gave me this jacket about 14 years ago and that person who gave me this jacket worked at Fed Ex, so this is like a Fed Ex jacket and I just took off the label. Since the jacket is really old the zipper fell off and I just used a paper clip in place of the zipper that fell off.

This jacket might be the reason why I'm not so popular with women. And actually, I'd like to buy a really nice... You know, sometimes when I'm speaking in English I'm actually thinking in Japanese. . . I want to buy a really nice dressy jacket. But the thing is I keep telling myself that I'm going to move to Thailand and I'm not going to need a jacket, so why waste 200 dollars on a jacket. So anyways, that's my jacket zipper.

I'm here at Hat Kobe. It's a pier near central Kobe. Yesterday was December 31st. I didn't go out of my house all day yesterday, so it's nice to come out here and go on a walk. Ah, I just feel really lonely and I miss my wife. I see some other people here walking too.

Looks like people are flying kites day. This is a good day to fly kites. I don't know, it's kind of symbolic. It's the first day of the year, first day of 2012. Put a kite in the air. These ones, they're speaking Korean I think.

Looks like I lost the sunshine that I was enjoying when I came here. It's pretty dismal out here today. There's not many people out. I'll show you what it looks like here now. There's some boats docked here. I don't know if these are private boats or commercial boats.

Over there is Minatogawa Shrine. I'm going to head over there now. It is really crowded here. The only saving grace I have is that I'm taller than everybody. Everyone wants to pray at the shrine on the first day of January so it's really crowded.

So this is the area in the temple grounds where all the vendors have set up. You can buy food, snacks. They have games here, toys for kids. Everything.

  • You're living the dream life man, I really wish I was in japan again. I say get a new jacket, then open a mixi account and make tons of new friends online, then hang out with someone new every few days and you won't feel alone anymore. Its the best way to make new penpals in japan!

  • Hey, you make Japan look like a peace on earth compared to the USA! Everyone looked so happy and even in a large group of people then was no rushing and everyone was so patient! If you had family in Japan I know you would spend the day with them on the first day of the year. As the days go on you will surly see your friends again! They have not forgotten about you! Good bless and please keep making vids from Japan!!!!

  • i hope your ok man you look really sad and lonely. and if your going to thailand the jacket will be basiclly useless so yeah.

  • There are bunch of lonely people. You are not the only one who are alone in Christmas and New Year. How about join in some hobby circle? Or if you are Christian, there are both Catholic and Evangelical church in Kobe. Also Kobe Regatta & Athletic Club is social place for westerners.

  • Why don't you come back? you look so lonely there!
