RC Sport Flyer Magazine is doing a review of the new YS FZ70-S four stroke engine. This is a new generation engine, based on the YS 63, but with more displacement, a ring-sealed crankshaft (to increase the crankcase supercharger effectiveness) and a new regulator.

Our testing shows that this engine is simply awesome! It will pull larger props, but is happiest running props that let it rev to 11-12K RPM, and will very happily run to over 13K RPM. In this test, it turned 12,800 RPM with a Master Airscrew 14X5 composite prop, producing over 10 lbs of thrust - and throttle response is explosive! Break-in and testing was done with Cool Power 30% low-smoke heli fuel.

We will install this to the new AeroWorks .40-.60 size profile plane in the near future and wring it out on an airplane.

  • How would the YS FZ70S work in a Top Flite Contender 60? I'm thinking of getting a OS .65 AX for more top end speed. If I used the YS 70 what prop would give me the highest speed for the Contender 60? I have a YS FZ63S never ran still in the box been saving it for my Phoenix models Sukhoi Su-31..... Many thanks, Kenny J

  • @SouthernPrinceKenny It should work fine in that plane, and would likely deliver more thrust and speed than the 65AX. I have no idea how much drag that plane has, so it's hard to say what the best prop will be. I would recommend starting with an APC 12X7 or 11X8.

  • It is the Medusa Research "Power Analyzer Pro" system, which is designed for testing electric power systems, but I adapted it to this test stand. Unfortunately they no longer sell or support this system, so I am living off some extra hardware I was able to purchase before they stopped producing them.

  • Nice! Unbelievable horsepower! 10+ Really?

  • @mastmar Yes, as amazing as it seems, it actually did produce 10 lb static thrust!

  • How about a OS .75 AX? Would that engine give me more thrust and speed than the .65 AX or YS FZ70S? What would be the very best choice of the three and prop for my T/F Contender 60 in order to get the most ultimate peak performance? Thanks for your expertise.

  • @seng30904 I would suggest to try 30% CoolPower. It's not only the nitro percentage, but also a lower viscosity fuel. YS engines usually run very well on CP30

  • what is the interface to control it with the pc? hows the set up? like you did it yourself or can be bought? thanks!

  • @seng30904 what percent fuel are you using?
