Look at how the reception changes as I reposition the way I'm holding the phone from the back(where I believe the antenna is) of the phone to the front. There have been lots of talks about "is it the network or is it the hardware". Well I firmly believe it is all about the hardware.

I actually own an older 2g iPhone and holding it in the same spot in any position I want it will beat the 3g iPhone in reception. Now I'm sure you've noticed that I was on the Edge network and that is because we don't currently have 3g in this area.

I really think it is hardware related. Maybe it is a simple mistake made by Apple or just a horribly cheap antenna they use. But I hope this is resolved by a recall or something of that nature. This same thing has been talked about all over the net about bad 3g reception, well I've seen it said about Edge too and that is my case.

If anyone else can explain why this is please let me know. And yes my 3g is disabled so I will only run off of Edge. And please no comments about "oh well just stop covering up the antenna to get better reception". Because if I were on the phone I would be holding it the same way.

  • I can't believe people still watch this video lol. Anyways, that phone was defective. They sent me a new unit that worked and didn't have this same problem. I have the 3GS and am going to wait for iPhone 4 bugs to be worked out before getting the first ones off the line. Good luck to anyone that has an iPhone 4. Maybe you will have a properly working phone.

  • Well truth, I got a new one straight from apple and the reception is noticably better. Even with the same firmware version. So sorry kiddy, but there must have been something wrong with the phone. I don't care what the instructions say. That phone had defect written all over it. So yes if anyone else has the problem and can go to an att store, hold it next to the same phone with the same version fw and see a difference in signal, I would recommend sending it in. That's what I did. Good luck

  • Well I just went up to AT&T the other day to compare my signal with their demo phones. Apparently mine is defective, all of there demo models had full signal on edge and 3G. Put mine right next to them holding them the same way and they were still getting 5 bars to my 2 bars. So of yours is getting poor reception check your local store and compare them. Hope this fixes it.

  • Ever try the same thing with the original iPhone? Nothing happens and if it did, it wasn't as severe of a drop as the 3g iPhone. Weak antenna that apple decided to use to me.

  • Yes that is why my phone has a big E on it for Edge also known as 2g. All 3g phones or at least the ones on Cingular are meant to work in both 2g and 3g areas. Plus I have 3g turned off for that reason.

  • its less that pathetic.

  • MINE ALSO..

SOMETIME GET THE SIGNAL.. SOMETHING NOT..

HOW TO SOLVE IT?? PLS TELL ME TQ

  • Mines always says G and 3G is on.

  • @XBLWasabiSnooters people watch it because you still have it up...change the title or something.

  • I had the same problem with my iPhone. So I took it apart and clean it cause it was really dusty and when I turned it back on I was getting full bars

  • I have the same problem. I was given a brand new 3G phone because Apple said my other phone was defective. It made no difference whatsoever. In my own house, I cannot get 3GS at all and sometimes the phone goes into a No Service mode. I reboot, restore, call Apple, call At & T and get nowhere! Most of the time, if I am away from home, the phone gets 3 to 4 bars in a 3G network but not always. I am paying a lot of money for absolutely crappy service.

  • its not apples fault...its the crappy at and t network of america, australia seems to have the best in the world as there are no reported antenna problems, my iphone 4 works fine anyway i hold it

  • my reception is on 0 >:(

  • @XBLWasabiSnooters Don't know if you know this but your video got put on an engadget article..
