"The German army, slowed down owing to lack of a proper cross-country administrative train for their army of maneuvre, failed to bring about the out-flanking operation which would have enabled them to cut off their enemy's retreat and to deal with him with some deliberation...if the German army had had a fully equipped and powerful army of maneuvre, fed by a highly mobile cross-country administrative train and backed by a mobile and powerful siege train of heavy land and air forces, then Moscow at least would have fallen."

--British General Francis Tuker in his book, The Pattern of War

Detailed Report:

Non-Linear Warfare requires what we do to be non-linear also; lest we follow predictable paths and drive into land mines and ambushes. Since we do not have millions of men drafted into the Army like WW2 to push all enemies to our front to create a "line", there are no "safe, rear areas" for a Jessica Lynch underclass to drive around in wheeled, un- or inadequately armored trucks on linear roads when the enemy is all around intermingled with the civil population.

The only lines we should defend comprehensively for are the border traces of the nation-state to contain conflict--and even then we must use sensors, barriers, fences, walls to block enemies comprehensively backed by mobile Quick Reaction Forces (QRFs) since we do not have enough men to position shoulder-to-shoulder 24/7/365 to defend thousands of miles of border. The concept here is economy-of-force.

Within secured border lines, conflict will be non-linear as we pursue enemy Centers-Of-Gravity (COGs) to subdue them. As we go after COGs, we must use forces that can fight in all directions--everyone works & everyone fights--just like Heinlein's "Starship Troopers"--including logistics resupply units who must be TRACKED, ARMORED and ARMED in order to get through. Certainly, during Nation-State War (NSW) we need non-linear, tracked resupply for our maneuver forces to be able to reach COGs and take them. In Sub-National Conflict (SNC) while we can and should picket Main Supply Routes (MSRs) with troops lying in ambush, we can ill-afford to be handicapped with wheeled trucks that are dependant upon roads/trails as we have seen in Iraq/Afghanistan where we have suffered grievous casualties and $ BILLIONS of losses that if not corrected, will result in our military defeat---just as surely as losing battles to enemy fire & maneuver--by financial exhaustion. However, by being able to use X-Country Maneuver (XCM) in all our U.S. Army units we force the enemy to have to defend everywhere and everything--making him become like the French in the 1st Vietnam war: protecting nothing. Its high time, we use the industrial might of the U.S. to actually empower our Army into a 21st Century non-linear force instead of a failed, gadgetized, WW2 linear war re-enactment. The way forward to supply EVERY Soldier with a High Technology M113 Super Gavin light, tracked, armored tank as the minimum mobility, protection and firepower standard for the Non-Linear Battlefield (NLB).

  • An Army officer writes 3:

Either way this is brilliant. Tracked logistics is the way to go. Von Mellenthin in his book Panzer Battles wrote that from the Wehrmacht experiences in Poland, Yugoslavia and Russia, all military vehicles should be the tracked variety as they didn't get stuck in the mud and cross country capability became very important for finding routes off road.

    Thanks, XXXXX

  • An Army officer writes 2:

This solution can and will replace our light to medium trucks as well as the PLS, provided that the XM1108 has a self lifting mechanism that can pull a 20 foot container upon itself, or get a tracked forklift equivalent.

  • An Army officer writes 1:

"As a logistician myself looking at the cargo carrier Gavin and the XM1108, I think this solved the answer for making our logistics tracked. In a manner similar to the Hobart's Funnies to which I credited in my thesis, as well as you I must add, this is a solution that can be implemented NOW.

  • 1:40 that little bit in the bottom-right corner about a sealing roads, I assume they're talking about the Engineer Corps' Mobile Mixers, the ones that fill in holes in roads from blasts.

The point where I realized how truly ridiculous the employment of wheeled vehicles in a warzone is, is the point where I saw that for the first time. Mobility was so poor they had to stand around mixing concrete because even the roads were no-go for wheelers. I got a migraine just thinking about that.

  • Anyone who seriously entertains the notion that Wheeled vehicles alone can sustain a military's Logistics has never met General Winter or General Mud.

    And it's not like there aren't any alternatives to Wheeled Trucks already available;

  • M113 is arguably best light tank, still its better than having all those useless Strykers and Humves for sure

  • The argument here is absolutely irrefutable...

The problem is military culture is hugely entrenched, the egos are immense, and the procurement processes are highly profitable.

  • M548 cargo carrier

    M1108 universal carrier

could also be superb in delivering supplies X country. Like the drop down sides. Much like the SA buffel personnel/cargo carrier. This drop down sides could be adapted to the variants above as well.

Its time to go back to the proven and more reliable designs for combat.

  • M548 cargo carrier

    M1108 universal carrier

could also be used for taking supplies over X country.

I do like like the drop down sides like the buffel SA personnel/cargo carrier.

This could adapted on the other variants mentioned above.

  • why are they not using this..god their fucking retarded
