When I needed to know how to remove the bolt a number of mechanics told me to use an impact wrench. I never tried it since I found my own remedy to the problem. I'm interested to hear your explanation as to how it could damage an engine, considering engines are made to withstand thousands of RPMs and contain extremely strong hardened metals. Also this is a DIY video and you come on here telling people to pay a mechanic $400 to do the work for them?

you didn't worry about breaking the crankshaft pulley?

How did you get the pulley off? There are no threaded holed on it so I am not able to use the webbed puller tool. And because only half the pulley is accessible, I am not able to use the 3 prong hooked puller tool. Its bloody frustrating. Any help is much appreciated.

@frylockthefryman Yeah... My brother has had 4 Accords that didn't bend valves come through his shop... He said Accords are bad about bending valves and it's odd that those didn't... He has one right now that needed valves because everyone of them bent... I've seen that the 1.5 in the Civic seems to get lucky often though. I'm glad mine did. I cranked on mine after it happened though. Not knowing the belt broke. A State Trooper gave me ride home though... So I real lucky..

You may get lucky where when the timing belt breaks the valves are closed enough to not get bent by the pistons but most people with interference engines aren't so lucky.

@frylockthefryman I have an 88 Civic base model with the 4 spd and 1.5... My timing belt broke and it didn't bend the valves...
Slick move with the Crank Shaft pulley! Video was very informative, regardless of the nails. Fkn kids.

Sorry: But why do you have to replace the followig things when you replace a timing belt: tensor, water pump cam and crank seal and a valve gasket cver? I went to a shop to get a quote and they told me that they recommend I do all this as well andc they would charge me $550!

Those parts are best to replace while doing a timing belt job because they will eventually fail and you have access to them while replacing the timing belt.
The most important things to replace are the timing belt, timing belt tensioner and water pump because if you replace the timing belt and the bearings fail on the water pump or tensioner, the new timing belt will be destroyed and the whole job will have to be done again.
