Knowing you have a mental disorder doesn't change the fact that you have a mental disorder in any way. Depressed people know they have depression and schizophrenics know they are schizophrenic, but does that mean they can just stop because they know they have a problem? No. If you have a brain injury and you know you have memory problems, it doesn't make you any better at remembering things. They know they are hoarders, but that doesn't make it any easier to throw away things.

It broke my heart when the woman said she and her husband held hands for the first time in a couple of years... THAT is the part that disturbed me the most... what a miserable existence!

Melodie, have you seen the place where she sleeps, if something falls on her, she could possibly die, I think she shouldn't live in that appartement it's a danger to herself, she should be hospitalised for her own good because she is putting herself in danger

Melodie breaks my heart. Does anyone know what became of her? I read in this thread that she became homeless; was she ever able to get help? I feel such sympathy for her because she was all alone and REALLY wanted help.

The hypnotists office is cluttered.

I burst right into tears when Melody cried 'don't go' :( I'm so sad to hear she's homeless.

Melody's such a cute little old lady. :) I like her

@trsdos Oh, I think that way too, I even find beauty in death. But I'm not just gonna let them run around in a rampage. I'll try to keep them alive as long as nature lets me. And as for strangers, I would like someone to take care of my loved ones or myself if anybody else could... it's in our human nature... but of course you could lack it, so you wouldn't understand what I'm saying. ^^

if WHAT happened to me or a loved one? death? sorry to say but its part of reality. we all die.

@trsdos and you'll be singing the same tune if it happens to you or a loved one, right...? Talk about maturity...

Whats with big brother being big mother? Let people be a hazard to themselves, if her shit falls on her and she dies would it really be so bad? We all die, and we all want to save eachother and ourselves from death, but it is natural. I find it to be sad that she is now homeless, but at least she is free.
LIBERTY OR DEATH!
Wouldn't cognitive behavioural therapy be a better option than hypnotherapy?

Both therapies are good. Personally, I prefer hypnotherapy as it is relaxing and anxiety reducing, rather CBT can increase the anxiety (esp. at the beginning). I've had great results with hypnotherapy. Also, it seems as though less sessions are needed with hypnotherapy.

I have no doubt Melody has a medical condition. As I'm watching this, it's pretty obvious that her hoarding is putting her and her neighbours in danger. Isn't that the threshold for being forced into a psych hospital? Danger to self and/or others? Just letting them be is not treatment in my opinion.

I agree. Unfortunately, the 'system' can't/won't help Melody enough. She's required to remember to bring different legal documents here and there and her brain trauma gets in the way of being able to function to do this. And with all the cutbacks in social services, there doesn't seem to be any service that can or will help. It's difficult to get into a psych hospital in California. Last I heard she was homeless.

Yes, it's a shame there isn't enough support of the right kind. Yet while most people can benefit from hypnotherapy, Melanie had a severe brain injury. I spoke with her about whether she thought hypnotherapy could help and we felt it could help more in stress reduction as it most likely wouldn't help her brain injury area. The couple, as you saw, had great results with hypnotherapy, but it was only one session which isn't enough to fix everything about their home and marriage.
