The story of the first Black Airmen to fly in World War ll. This film was made by the Pare Lorentz Center at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library.
Airmen Wild Bill (William Wheeler) who joined the Lonely Eagles in 2011, was on the cover of this documentary. You can contact his son Derek Wheeler or the FRD Library for a copy in DVD form
I am acquainted with Lee Archer, Roscoe Brown, Col Dryden and some of those individuals featured in the variou clips. Good Documentary except the audio was too low to appreciate the presentation. How can I get a cleaner copy of this video?
Finally, I am perfectly aware of the somewhat exaggerated claims made about the "Red Tails", they, in fact lost bombers, very few, but they lost them, but that same sources who debunk the myth of the "Red Tail never lost a bomber" also acknowledge their outstanding performance...and the discrimination they suffered was´nt a myth or HBO fiction, was sadly real and still they fought tooth and nail for their country...just as white people did, and that my friend, deserves praise.
@nedstewart1... I have extremely clear how the USA won the war, was through superior industrial power and superb team work which means discipline, the Germans have some of the best pilots of all times and very good equipment the Japanese were extremely good and the Zero could fly rings around anything at the beginning of the war but the bravery, team work and numbers of the mostly white USA airmen bested them, acknowledging Tuskegee success doesn´t takes anything from white pilots
Ey!!...cool your jets, of course the movies are fiction I said that myself, I clearly wrote "some others" and that was an historical fact, the Tuskegee as a group were arguably the best bombers escorts of WWII, they were extremely careful to fly no too far from the bomber and not too close, just enough to do the job first and foremost, that doesn´t mean other groups were bad, not at all. I offer gratitude and respect to your father and his brothers on arms regardless their race.

@AkiraBrahe I get it the American pilots were inferior because they lacked discipline. My father flew over the skies of Europe and would be insulted by those remarks. The Tuskegee airmen were no better disciplined or better pilots than the White pilots. Don't tell me you believe that the fiction HBO movie of the Airmen was 100% truthful.
Too bad the "Red Tails" movie will come out when so many of these fine gentlemen are dead, of course the movie will be Hollywood fiction, with very little to do with reality but still will be a deserved acknowledgment of the skill, bravery and above all professionalism of these pilots, where some others hunted for glory the "Red Tails" always put the mission and the team work first, that make one of the best or probably the best USA air group of WWII
@AlHajjMalik01 Calm down, though you are justified on your anger against racists who by definition are also ignorants there is not need to scream, you are right about how mixed are we all, so mixed in fact many biologists say there is only a Homo Sapiens race with only minor cosmetic differences among groups, not differentiated races. But you are wrong about Hitler, at most he had a Jew ancestor, but there is not solid evidence of that, only a small possibility.
