We have it in Britain as well, it tells drivers to get into 1st gear. You're allowed to drive through it still.

The yelow after red is a good thing for europe cause most of us here have manual cars unlike americans. I'm from Romania and there are some lights that show how much seconds will be until it will be green or red again. The lights for the people that are walking on foot also have a clock that shows when the colour will change. It's nice cause you won't say "when the fuck will it be green again ? " or "fuck, I should have mover faster, now it's red again and god nows when it will be green again"
