I just came by this when checking into the luthier process. This guy seems so fucking genuine, as sappish as it sounds his blatant love for crafting is heart-touching. I can only hope that whatever i do with my life brings the same feelings he talks of.
That really is funny, I'm sure a lot of people will dispute you on that statement. Of course I'm sure you are not a musician and probably don't know anything about guitars.
He charges bugger all for his guitars - seriously! They resell for ridiculous amounts, however. The only reason that many people don't have one is that his waiting list is very long and you usually have to know him personally to get one. Great guy, great luthier.
I have hiked the AT from Springer to Marion,Va. So far my favorite section is the south western part of Virginia. The people are so warm and friendly. God surely smiled upon the country side. Beautiful land. My ancestors came from Ireland , in 1792, to the mountains of Virginia , near Old Rag Mountain. Somehow we came to South Carolina. I love south western Virginia
I was born in Keen Mountain, a coal camp in Buchanon County near Grundy. My family was made up of coal miners for N&W and Pond Creek Coal companies. Listened to Flatt and Scruggs, Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe, and the Carter family. Played football at WVU after which my career brought me to California where I just retired. Still think the SW Virginia area is the most beautiful in the world. My best to all of Virginia and Virginians. And yes, I play the guitar.

Miss the mountains and trees and all the streams. Good to hear from someone back home.
COOL!
