PLEASE READ FIRST!!!!!
Queen Victoria and Prince Albert; possibly one of the greatest love stories ever told, EVER! Hehe. And the great thing is, is that it actually happened. It's apart of history. :)
Now, I love anything to do with the Royal's, Period drama, and especially the Victorian era in general just because she was such an amazing leader - and so I was UH - MAZED when I found out about the movie 'The Young Victoria' which chronicles the young monarch's ascension to the throne, and her beautiful romance with the dashing Prince Albert (more on him later. *wink* lol).
I urge ALL OF YOU to see this movie guys, especially if you're not familiar with Queen Victoria and the story of herself and Albert. It's absolutley amazing. Trust me, it's really touching and even if you're not a period drama fan, a romantacist, or a typical girl, I promise you, you'll still love it! :)
Emily Blunt is amazing in this movie, as are the rest of the cast, especially the lovely Mr. Rupert Friend, who plays Prince Albert. His portrayal of the Prince is completley spot on! He deserves an Oscar! lol. I'm sure that the days where he is most remembered, for being the guy on Keira Knightley's arm, or his bit parts in 'Pride and Prejudice' and 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.' are over! - He's amazing in this film, plus....Rupert = LUSH! Haha. He definitley deserves every ounce of fame and glory for this!
...
Now, this video is basically about the relationship between Victoria and Albert, and it also covers how Victoria struggles with her sheltered childhood, which is consistently scrutinised by the greedy Sir John Conroy, who seeks to force Victoria to sign a regency order so that her mother can rule in her place, and also the pressure Victoria suffers when she finally becomes Queen at the tender age of 18, and comes under fire from people who believe that she is too naive and young to lead an empire. (Hah! This girl became the longest reigning British monarch! Don't forget that! lol) Enter Albert - her first cousin (Yessss! He was her cousin, but that was entirely normal in those days, some people even marry their cousins in today's society.), her arranged suitor, who she began to fall in love with, despite her stubborness at believing that she didn't need a husband to take on her duties. However, she finally fell for Albert, her only real ally and friend among the obnoxious advisors such as Conroy and the Priminister, who were ready to dictate her orders, and they eventually married, changing the Kingdom of Great Britain into a brilliant nation, together. :)
Now, you can tell from the pages of history that their love was special, especially when you consider the fact that Victoria completley fell apart when Albert died at the untimely age of 42, and she went into mourning for the rest of her life, wearing black every day for 40 more years until her own death at the turn of the 20th century. Victoria rarely spoke out or attended royal social events after Albert died, and instead turned into the grieving, all - black wearing grump that everybody hears about today. But only if you look at how she got there, will you really understand the reason behind her late sadness. It really is heartbreaking. :(

This is my first video of an actual movie, but I am really pleased with it, mainly because I just love this couple. It doesn't give away too many spoilers....but if you're really bothered then don't bother watching. But I'd love it if you did. lol.

  • One more note about Victoria's appearance: she was very short and curvaceous to begin with, so after nine children in 17 years, her waist just disappeared. Then Albert died and all motivation to look beautiful for someone was gone forever. The smooth shoulders and generous bustline she had been so proud of were covered up, and only her voice was still as pretty as it had been when she was a newly-crowned 18 year old.

  • oh..my...gosh!!! this is amazing! This could have been the trailor. Seriously!!

  • @EnjoyTheMusic242 I think 'whiny' and 'grumpy' are the words that best suit Queen Victoria's personality.

  • @EricBree1978 ...personal ideas on women's rights were. She may indeed, as you said, have had particular views on women's rights and their role in life. I'll admit that I didn't know that, but she WAS stubborn in her views on marriage, and what I meant to say was that her ideas seem to be very femenist-like. It was basically just the word which most suited what I meant.

  • @EricBree1978 Okay, so maybe 'femenist' was the wrong word to use. However, I meant to stress that Victoria WAS stubborn and independent and was afraid of being dictated to, largely because of her upbringing in which she was ordered around in everything she did. In adulthood, she didn't want to rely on or be inferior to anybody in general, & not wanting to marry Albert was probably an extension of that. She didn't want to give in to these fears of ownership, no matter what her...

  • @EnjoyTheMusic242 I highly doubt Victoria was a feminist. Just in case you didn't know, she was against women's right to vote. In 1870 she wrote 'Let women be what God intended, a helpmate for man, but with totally different duties and vocations'. Is that what you call a feminist?

  • Prince Albert is DEFINATELY my favourite character in this movie, smiled everytime the two of them were together.... :D Great movie!

  • @EnjoyTheMusic242 ahhh our internet went on a vacation :))) I can jut tell, I guess. It has something to do with...I just think I find it easy to differentiate English, from American, from other foreigners using the English language for communication...erm something like that...

  • @EricBree1978 But she didn't. She caved. You could say under pressure from her people and government, but given that we know she really loved him, I like to think it was in part motivated by affection. Perhaps Victoria realised that if she HAD to marry, it could very well have been to someone she hugely disliked, and marrying Albert was the best choice, because at least she had love for him. Sorry, rambled a bit there :)

  • @EricBree1978 ...she saw it as a way for a woman to be 'controlled' by a man, especially a Queen. The government even admitted that they thought a marriage would 'tame and domesticate' her, because they thought she was too feisty. She obviously took offence to this. Who wouldn't? But she did fall in love with Albert, and despite her views on marriage, she did ask him to marry her. She didn't have to. She was Queen. She could have done whatever she liked, and rejected a marriage like Elizabeth I.
