The name of this video is Splitting, Joining, and Expanding Editor Windows. It is possible to expand an editor window by moving the cursor to the edge of the window until you see a double arrow. Left click and drag the window open. This can be done horizontally or vertically.

You also can split an editor editor into multiple editor windows. To split, place the cursor in the upper right hand corner of the editor window. There's a splitter widget that looks like a ridged thumb grip. When the cursor turns into a cross, left click and drag the cursor horizontally to create a vertical split. You can also create a horizontal split by placing the cursor in the splitter widget until a cross appears, and left clicking and dragging the cursor vertically to create a horizontal split. Each window has its own header window and an associated tool panel.

  • @JannisAdmek Thanks! I'm in the process of creating a book from the scripts of my Blender 3D tutorials, as well as a DVD consisting of the tutorial videos. Stay tuned.

  • @GPEART1: I will be doing more of these. Also, I'm in the process of publishing the scripts of my Blender tutorials as a book (Blender 3D Cookbook). I will also be publishing a DVD of all my tutorials (Blender 3D Cookbook DVD). Stay tuned for the announcements.

  • Ok so I am using blender 2.61 and this isnt working... I tried right clicking and this opens a box that gives me the option to join or split screen... but the issue is, I cant click on either one to split or join screens.

  • What a stupid functionality! Confusing and pointless.... Whoever programmed this is a complete idiot... Just to prove that he/she can do it! User friendliness... Naaa who cares about that... Sort this shit out!

  • OMFG! HOW THE FUCK DO YOU MAKE ALL THE VIEWPORTS INTO 4 SINGLE ONES AUTOMATICALLY?????????????????

  • Thanks, that was driving me nuts. I couldn't figure out why they would allow you to create a new window, but there appeared to be no way of closing it.

  • I guess "joining" windows basically means closing a window because I can't find any information on simply closing an extra window. Unless some more experienced users here know about that. Good tutorial anyways.

  • Thanks for your tutorial!

  • i dont wanna spit on all those blender tutorials on the web/youtube/wherever, but ira's tutorials are superior. clear voice, clear text, you get exactly explained what the title says: not less, and (fortunately) not more. i've consumed quite a bunch of em.

for this particular tutorial i would suggest that i should deliver with the software itself - once you find how to split a window, you wont find out how to close it. thumbs up, if you agree ;)

  • MAN YOU SAVE WITH THIS VIDEO THANKS!

  • Thanks!!! Just what i needed xD

  • thank you SOOO MUCH i havent been able to figure that out & also been too lazy to look it up :D
