Alex Ovechkin Knee on Knee hit on Sergei Gonchar in Game 4

Ovechkin says he was going for the shoulder hit when Gonchar turned around and he just flew into him. This was late in the 1st period and Ovie got a tripping call, on the ensuing power play Fedotanko scored to put Pittsburgh up by 2.

I'm all for toughness and physicality in hockey cause it wouldnt be the same without it, but what Ovechkin does here is clearly a knee-on-knee hit which can end careers.

also the way he leaves his feet on almost every hit is not right either, if he would stay on his feet when he hits he may even be more affective because he wont be propelled throguh the air like he was on orpik and malkin.

he wasn't even trying to go knee on knee its clear he never stuck his leg out , ovechkin always has a generally large stance when he skates, and in this video he clearly goes in shoulder first and gonchar tries to avoid the hit clipping ovechkins knee

he obviously wasnt trying to go knee to knee he went shoulder to shoulder with the guy but gonchar tried to dodge at the last second leaving his legs where ovies legs were

sure the hit wasnt good but when u try to dodge the hit ur body is out of the way but the legs are left out in the open so if ur gonna try to dodge its called going in soft which is y people get hurt.
