Opera Mini vs Palm Pre WiFi

Since so many people compained that 3G is slower than non-3G (crazy, right?) I made another video using WiFi.

Windows Mobile is using the Opera Mini web browser and the Palm Pre is using it's own Pre browser. Both phones visited neowin.net yesterday, so they both had the ability to cache the website. If they didn't cache the site, then that's the browser's problem. (Actually, the Windows Mobile phone never even visited neowin.net before, I forgot! But it still wins!)

They are both connected to WiFi, the same network. My WiFi network is a DSL connection, and I think it's actually slower than the 3G connection that Sprint has.

So, no more outrageous comments. This is a fair test. And of course Opera Mini is going to be a faster browser since it uses Opera Turbo. Opera's servers compress the websites and then send them to your phone so that they load faster on slower networks. It's still the same full website though. But that's what makes the Opera Mini browser that much better. Hopefully the Pre will get the Opera Mini browser soon, and then it can load just as fast!

wow everybody's being annoying (including me) ok Im sorry for arguing in the first place, I take everything back in this video and the other one, tell everyone to calm down, this can not possibly biased or anything else because it is dependent on the speed. But yep, for some people, it's all about speed. Others, they're all about features. Just like desktop browsers: Chrome and Firefox.

And as someone said above, it'd be freakin great if the Pre got Opera Mini on it. Blackberry and Windows Mobile both have it, so why no love for the Pre? We shall see if it gets any, hopefully!

I reported that my pre loaded in 25 seconds, that was with EVDO, but with WIFI it loaded the same page in 15 seconds.

your video is a bit bullshit. i just went to the site with my pre, took less than 2 seconds to load. your video is fake. i used wifi and it only took less than 2 seconds, and using the normal non-3g network it took 4 seconds. once again, your video is fake or your pre has some serious fuck ups in it. its easy with a decent router to limit the bandwidth to a device, so you could have just given the opera phone full bandwidth and the pre hardly any. TEST FAIL

My pre loaded the same page via wi-fi in 6 seconds the desktop version and less than 2 second the mobile version.

lmao yeah, its because opera is not full web view. hahahah it compresses the page, and your coverage must suck where you live cuz my pre can open the biggest of pages in less then 10 seconds almost no matter what, wifi or not

Opera Mini compresses pages, so theoretically it should definitely download faster. I'm not sure if either of these phones maintain much of a client-side cache
