Where is such a voice today in the Repub party? Ironically, the 1964 Repubs were only percevied as radical, but really werent. Goldwater was such a straight talker that everyone feared war. The Repubs today ARE dangerously radical.

For all Goldwater's bitching about "Eastern elites" like Rockefeller, the fact is, ROCKIE did a lot more for New York as Governor for only about 10 or so years. than Goldwater probably did for Arizona in his 20+ years in the Senate! Rockefeller invested in things like hospitals, roads, bridges, schools, etc. He was quite progressive socially for a Republican, and he was only MODERATELY 'pro-rich' on economics.
