My view of the derecho of 8 May 2009 that left southern Illinois in darkness for 5 days. The storm brought sustained winds of over 100 mph.

  • i lived in parsons kansas when this storm first started up. was one of the first towns to get hit, and it did (arguably) the most damage in that town. destroyed my car, and some wind speeds were reported at well over 110mph. with one gust registered at 130mph. this was the same day, you got this storm about 4 or 5 hours after we did. this looks tame compared to what I saw at 7am (central time) still a horrible storm. My wife and I moved back to my home state of VA. didn't want our kids out there
