What is Hurling?

Hurling has been described variously as 'field hockey in the air,' 'brutal field hockey,' 'like lacross but with solid sticks' etc. None of these descriptions really do the game justice. To truly get a feel for the spirit of the sport requires that you see it in action. It exhibits a unique combination of skill, athleticism, stamina and speed that few sports can match. It is acknowledged as the fastest field game on earth. It has the speed and continuous flowing action of ice hockey but on grass.

  • What prevents someone from catching the ball and just carrying it all the way down the field? Can they be tackled or something?

  • @SlauterHouZe101

explained in parts 2 and 3. you can balance the ball on the stick and sprint, but you can only take 4 steps/strides with the ball in your hand. over-carrying will result in you conceding a free. giving possession to the other team.

  • @MrFocaleile check out hurling a mans game

  • Hurling is a great sport. I'm from the US and have no Irish in me, but they used to show games occasionally on TV here and I thought it was great stuff and wanted to see more, but they haven't shown it in years. Early professional baseball was dominated by Irish players (the Delahantys, Mike Kelly, John McGraw, Larry Doyle, etc.), and though hurling & baseball are nothing alike, I can see how a hurling background can lead naturally to baseball. I'd like to see more hurling on US TV.

  • @RobBemelmans Lacrosse, Hockey and Baseball are derived in a loose way from this sport.

  • @fathippos14 Retard

  • UP THE DEISE

  • @Blackhawk5656 it plays nothing like lacrosse but I can see how you'd make the comparison. Its a unique game

  • @MrFocaleile im sorry i over reacted. still in ways its lacrosse in other ways its not

  • @Blackhawk5656 oh , so your entitled to your opinion but of course im not?

  • @MrFocaleile im not here to fucking argue im entitled to my opinion

  • @Blackhawk5656 no but it seems that hurling looks at least 10 times as skilful, 5 times as tough and so much faster and more exciting, and without any gay padding and only a helmet that is like paper compared to that motorcycle one they use in lacrosse.

I have yet to see a greater game than hurling
