It was the greatest secret war in SAS history one of the least known, yet most crucial battles of modern times. If the SAS had been defeated at the Battle of Mirbat in Oman in 1972, Russian plans for a communist foothold in the Middle East would have succeeded with devastating consequences for the West. It was a historic battle with impossible odds: 9 men against 400 and it cost the lives of 2 of them. Now Roger Cole, one of the SAS soldiers who took part, along with writer Richard Belfield have written a book 'SAS Operation Storm'. Roger is campaigning to win posthumous Victoria Crosses for the 2 unsung heroes who died in this forgotten war.

  • I served with Tommy Tobin. In the ACC at 7 Para RHA. He was a great bloke came from Fulham. Had been Junior RSM at the JTR ACC. before he came to 7 RHA. Then he went on to Hereford. One of the best looking and smartest soldiers I ever saw. RIP Tommy.

  • Bravo 2 Zweo takes a lot of prominance today for famous SAS accomplishements. However, Mirbat has to be THE ultimate battle of modern times in the history of the Regiment. Looking at this elderly gentleman recount his experience, one can still see the presenace of that quiet unasuming confidence that all members of the Regiment possess. Respect to Mr Cole and all B sqn 22 SAS who were involved that day! Garry H, RAf, 87- 06.

  • We're all very proud Roger, don't you worry about that mate. Every true Brit is in debt to you and the lads at Mirbat.

  • politicans they never change only when they think there is something in it for them they do somethting these 2 deserve the VC so do the other 7 no argument no question just do it.

  • @MrBushWookiee I agree maybe one day we will have a government that cares more about our armed forces, and these men will receive the medals they deserve.

  • I was just watching about the Battle of Mirbat, they are all heroes. Back then they couldn't get the Victoria Cross because it was a secret war. But now, they deserve the medals they should have been awarded but couldn't.

  • Ive Known Roger for 25 yrs--- --its good to seeyou about Roger--are ya ever going to tell about that friendly spar ya had with Ali---regards to you and yours old friend-Graham

  • I have just finished reading Mr Coles book and totally agree with him,and have thought the same for a good number of years.members of the SAS are not,by nature, gong hunters, but all Sgt Labalaba recieved was a poxy mention in dispatches.personally i think all nine members of B Squadron should have received the VC. the discipline and bravery they showed in the face of such overwhelming odds is beyond the comprehension of most people in particular the M.O.D. Gentlemen i salute you

  • Respect, bravemen.
