Wanna see an old wall, go to Helensburgh. That wall is oldest one in the country.

Maunual operated chocks, the guys hadnt heard of an automated system.

@mick4294 i worked at metrop, never got underground though. would have loved to see the place, their workings are about an hours drive from pit bottom and getting further away, think they got about 15 years left in the current mine plan. their gonna be mining under the princess hightway soon enough....just on the sydney side of the helensburgh turnoff...

There's a memory!!

1985, Lingan Colliery, long wall advance mining.

Went there on a tour as part of a mining tech course. Between being bent over under the roof jacks, the methane popping out of the face and the gob falling behind us, I swore never again...LOL

Lot of good years working hard rock mines (gold, lead, zinc) and never did step foot in another coal mine.

Much respect for those that do!
