  • I really missed this part in the London production as it was easily my favourite here in Toronto. Don't get me wrong, the new song is gorgeous as well, but there's something a little too 'musical theatrey' about it, whereas this is just so grand and majestic.

  • Ugh... I just listened to this again for the first time in months... and I miss this show... there's lots of stuff that didn't work in the Toronto show, but they should not have changed this song. This has got to be my favourite part of the Toronto production. So majestic...

  • Is the London equivalent of this on the soundtrack, or is this part of the music that ought to have been included on it but wasn't? I never saw the show, so I don't know.

  • If anyone is interested I posted an actual video of this scene. It's not the best quality but still very nice.

  • @Mithcoriel It was just a great combination of acting, as each individual showed his reaction to the beauty around him, and staging, the elves and the lighting created a beautiful scene for them to discover when they came off the ladders. As for Legolas, I'm pretty sure he didn't sing that song in the Toronto version -- I think it was written for the London show. On the whole, Galadriel was very different in Toronto - I'll post a link to a clip of the Lothlorien set, in Toronto.

  • @Mithcoriel So the audience was sort of watching two scenes at once -- the fellowship climbing the ladders, and the stage being transformed into Lothlorien. Then (I think at about 1:24 in the music, the first of the fellowship stepped off the ladder and removed his blindfold, and (the actors were awesome at this part) looked astonished at seeing where he was, with all the elves and their candles, and the beautiful lighting. Each of the fellowship did this (you can kind of hear it in the music)

  • @Mithcoriel Sure! From what I remember (it was several years ago) they had the fellowship start climbing ladders that hung from above the top of the stage, but the ladders moved down so that the actor climbing them actually stayed in the same place (kind of like the ladder version of a treadmill, you see?). And as they climbed, the elves all kind of moved into place really slowly, each with candles on both of their hands. (continued...)

  • @silhuetto Cool, could you describe what happened? I never saw the musical.

How did they do that for the audience? Was the rest of the stage that they couldn't see in the dark or something? (And how did Legolas end up on the stage all alone when he sang "Lothlorien"?)

  • Could I have an MP3 of this?! And anything else from this production, I saw the London one and it was AMAZING!

  • me too?

    ^_^

  • The London version does have Legolas attempting components of this arrangement but while moving, how can a single voice produce the multiple otherworldly microtones. I guess this depends on their budget. I'll be curious to see what the next production of the musical does.

  • Wow, I absolutely agree with Dharma572, while the London version is thrilling to the max a mix of this version as intro leading to the London version of Galadriel's song would be transcendent!
