"Ershter Vals," inspired partly by Hollywood films about World War II, and partly by music originating in the Jewish ghettos of the time, celebrates the moments of brightness that can still shine in the midst of dark times, Ma Cong choreographed an initial version of the piece for Richmond Ballet's New Works series last fall. For Studio 1, he's added one section, tweaked others, and now calls the work complete.
"Ma Cong's newly revised and completed "Ershter Vals" showed the company at its best: reveling in rich, delicious partnering, tossing off fascinating inflections ...." - Style Weekly, Richmond USA.
"Ershter Vals...This is a touching, full-bodied, inventive piece... The dancers swooped through their waltzes beautifully, with much tenderness between partners..." - Wendy Perron, Dance Magazine USA.
Big thanks to the Artistic Director Stoner Winslett, artistic teams, staff and all the beautiful dancers at Richmond Ballet!- Ma Cong, Choreographer.
Does anyone know who sings this song? Anyway, it was an absolutely beautiful piece! The dancers were fantastic as well.
