My 66 mustang that I JUST got running for the first time. Its a ford racing crate motor with the gt40y aluminum heads, a b or e cam (not sure..got the motor used from my buddy who didn't know)...with hedman longtubes and a t5 5 speed conversion. It's running 2.5" dual exhaust through flowmasters. It's got duraspark electronic ignition from an 85 mustang. This is the first time ever I fired it up..so it's still a little rough.

its possible but the power gains would be negligeable....they changed hp ratings in 72 so rated by todays standards a 66 mustang makes about 150 hp. it would b much easier to swap in an 87 or later motor as they make a lot more hp...and are a direct bolt in...same block.essentially

Why do they call it a roller engine?

previous to 1985, all the cam shafts were "flat tappet"..meaning the lifters went straight onto the cam, and essentially it was metal to metal with just lubrication...in 85 they changed the camshaft out to a "roller" design which means the lifters now have wheels on the bottom, and the lifters ride on the cam lobes via the wheels....essentially the cam and lifters last forever now, better reliability and more cam options with agressive profiles while being more street friendly than the old style

mustangsteve quadrant with the longer 96-04 sn95 mustang adjustable cable which clears #5 header up top with ease. I still had to have the header tube near the clutch fork cut and relocated by an exhaust shop. The clutch is as smooth as butter, and light enough to depress literally with one hand

Thanks! It's literally a 4 eyed drivetrain..the roller engine, a t5, and I'm picking up an 8.8 for it tomorrow. I've been into 4 eyes for 13 years, so my goal was to build a classic that performed like a fox, yet looked like a classic mustang still.

@v8only So my 66 mustang has flat tappets then? Can you convert to rollers?
