I got a few requests from friends (and myself) to make an alternative version of my recently uploaded time-lapse video of a recent trek through the Texas Hill Country.

Some of the reasons included:

1) A few people said they felt carsick after watching the super-speed time-lapse version.
2) Others mentioned that with the super-speed time-lapse it was difficult to get the full scope of how tall some of those hills were, or how far some of the scenic views were.
3) I really like hearing the sound of my "Big-Bore Four" torquing up the hills.

A few notes about the video:
1) This engine produces its maximum torque at 3800 RPM. I tend to run it there when climbing or braking, even if my foot is only 1/4 or 1/2 throttle.
2) I do skip a shift on a downshift once, but it was going to run up over 4000 and I didn't need to waste fuel to get up the hill any faster. It makes max horsepower around 5500 rpm.
3) At 00:52, that weird noise is my dog yawning, most likely to pop her ears. I know mine popped many times going through there.
4) I grew up driving and riding motorcycles on these roads. I know them like the back of my hand. If you think I took a blind corner too slowly for your taste, know this- it was not due to my lack of ability or my vehicle's lack of handling. I could have pushed this truck much faster through those curves, but I also know that grandpa's drive thru here at 20 mph and motorcycles carve the corners with little regard to the centerline. Every year dozens, perhaps hundreds of motorcyclists are scraped up and placed into body bags on these roads. They are the most popular motorcycle roads in Texas.
5) I know nothing about the dog in the road at 05:43. Beautiful chocolate lab, playing in the middle of the highway. After he got out of my way, he stayed in the middle of the road.
6) The last section is a series of hairpin switchbacks on Highway 16 between Medina and Kerrville. I don't know how they do it, but I see truckers pulling long trailers through here about every other time I drive that stretch. They really have their hands full, but it's a beautiful stretch of road... don't blame them for taking it.

If you think Texas is flat, you haven't seen enough of our 268,581 square mile state. We have 5 mountain ranges, and 6 named peaks over 8,000 ft elevation with the tallest being Guadalupe Peak at 8,749 ft. The highest point on state highways is 6,781 ft.
