JOE LIEBERMAN: [T]here were a couple of outliers [in the polls], which we're gonna reach for 'cause they were more encouraging. AP had it at a dead heat yesterday and then the George Washington battleground state poll had it at McCain only two down whereas two weeks ago he was ten down. [...] If I'm not mistaken when Al Gore and his brilliant running mate, about this time in the campaign in 2000, were about six or seven points behind and, of course, we won...or we got more votes anyway.

LIEBERMAN: [Palin] generates tremendous enthusiasm among real people who identify with her, who see her as a change agent. Obviously some others don't, but, on balance, I think she's helped the McCain ticket.

LIEBERMAN: [P]eople just reflex reacted [to the economic meltdown] to go with Obama in response. To me, that doesn't make sense, needless to say because it seems to me when you're in a crisis like we're in economically you go with the guy like McCain who's been tested in crisis.
