2009 Wind Blade Challenge - High School students across Maine competed to design and infuse fiberglass wind blades.
26 teams in all competed, with Blaine West and Christopher Pickering from Sumner Memorial High School (Sullivan, Maine) taking 1st place.
West Bay Boats was the lab for the teams representing two of our local high schools. After the teams had designed their blades, the lab provided instruction in infusing them.
Each team had their design tested at the AEWC Center in Orono (Maine) under a controlled environment. The blades producing the highest Watts over the course of a 3 minute test determined the winner with the highest peak reached used as a tie breaker.
The 1st place winners scored an impressive 66.56 Watts with 23.91 peak Watts. 2nd place scored 42.88/ 15.10 and 3rd place scored 37.61/ 13.70
