A rather tepid reincarnation of the best dixieland jazz band EVER, the ORIGINAL DUKES with the Assuntos. These guys play pretty well, but they don't come close to the muscianship and power of Papa Jac and the brothers. This band doesn't deserve the name.
They are not bad.... but they are NOT the REAL DUKES OF DIXIELAND, the Assuntos. Aren't there enough names to go around that they have to steal a name of a band then fight about it in the courts for many long years? It taints and sullies the reputation of BOTH bands.
I played clarinet with these guys on the Natchez once. I used to listen to them all the time, and got to know them all personally from my friend Scott, the piano player! I learned most of my dixieland jazz skills from them. Many memories!!! I play in a dixieland group now in Houston called the Lone Star Dixieland Band.
Pretty sad to see the ignorance of the folks criticizing these fine young gentlemen for playing real honest jazz music from the heart. Oh Well, some project their own angst and false sense of superiority into their critiques. No worries though, nothing but love for the Dukes!
Fakes?! are you kidding me?! Get a life! These guys aren`t pretending to be the Assunto`s! I`ve met and talked with the trumpet player and clarinetist. They just want to make some good music and keep the spirit of jazz alive! Come on people!
omg! ive met the clarinet player (earl) and the piano player (scott)! they're awsume! my mom goes to new orleans alot and they had a performace in chicago so we went to chicago with them. it was fun! oh and if you ever hear rumor down in new orleans about a bass singing, librarian always hanging out with the dukes from wisconsin, thats my mom. lol but you didnt hear that from me. lol

Their manager bought the name under "questionable circumstances" The players are not the original Dukes at all. But they do play well.
