Dark Souls - Slaying Hellkite Draken melee

Howto:

1. walk up stairs
2. shoot drake
3. take out melee weapon and hit its head as it lands
4. retreat down stairs
5. repeat

Did it with a level 18 char (started as pyromancer)

stats are: 10/12/15/16/12/12/10/14

btw:

You can do this without using any bows by walking up onto the bridge and then sideways to dodge the fire. The drake becomes kind of unpredictable if you do that however.

It will drop the drake sword even if you only hit its head, which means you can do this with any melee weapon without worrying about shooting its tail first (I did it with an axe at some point) unless if you somehow 1hit kill the drake.

If you reach the building behind the drake it may fly away, but it will return.

I have written nothing about damage. I used the word "hit".

The slaying of Hellkite would not have been possible without the bow and arrow, as you yourself mentioned. The amount of actual damage dealt by one is irrelevant, as both weapons were equally important.

It is ironic and expected that you would call me a "typical hating troll", seeing as the only one fitting that description here is you. Pointing out a misleading title is not "trolling" or "hating".

if you just go up the stairs (DO NOT walk onto the bridge), wait maybe 20 seconds or less, hell fly down, as soon as he starts to fly down, start moving to where his head will be, slash him once or twice, roll back down the stairs, wait for him to land again, go back up and repeat, no need for a bow.

i know this cos i accidently killed the merchant that sells the bows, so i had to kill him without the use of any ranged weapon early in the game lol

@samirato04 same. i just bought 99 twinkling and upgraded anything I could, and ds bow was one of them xD. catarinas armor at +5 is pretty good aswell. Decent defence, and still light enough to do ninja roll with a great axe (need a normal sized shield on though)

i dont know why DRiVASiAN is getting so many negative votes...well okay, yes i do. his way of arguing his point was really bad but i think his original point was valid. this is a strategy for melee based characters. it does require a bow to get its attention but youre using melee to deal the damage

Thanks for this tip it helped a lot. I was so leveled up that it only took 3 hits with the black knight sword to kill this guy I was suprised!
