Kids to Kids is a youth-led program that creates opportunity for kids to be kids worldwide through the participation in arts, sports, education and environmental projects -- creating a new generation of leaders and global citizens both here at home and abroad.

Kids to Kids was started in 2005 by four middle school-aged girls. Their goal was to help children in other countries develop their artistic, athletic and educational interests and enjoy childhood. Their plan was simple: gather money and supplies through kids in the United States and ship them to kids in underserved communities abroad. Initially they collected supplies and money and sent them to the Dominican Republic (DR). In 2006, they made their first trip to the DR to meet the kids they were helping. When they saw the conditions on the ground and realized their ability to create positive changes in the lives of other kids, the girls decided to expand their work. Looking for people integrated into communities worldwide whose judgment they could trust, the girls turned to Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs). Based on discussions with a number of PCVs and the local community leaders with whom they were partnered, the plan to expand the reach of Kids to Kids was hatched.

Kids to Kids has come a long way in the past several years! Last year we integrated our successful program into a bigger organization, World Connect, for administrative support. We are now working in twelve countries around the world. We no longer collect supplies; rather, we mobilize kids and teens in the US to become Kids to Kids Members and raise funds and awareness for youth abroad. Internationally, PCVs partner with community leaders to submit ideas for fun, meaningful and educational projects for youth. Kids to Kids Members then vote to select the best projects and we provide grants to bring them to life. As of June 2010, Kids to Kids has provided support for more than 300 projects in Belize, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Mali, Morocco, Peru, the Philippines and Rwanda. Through these 300 projects, PCVs hailing from 47 US states have directly engaged over 30,000 kids in dynamic arts, sports, education and environmental projects! Our next grant cycle will be in December 2010, when we'll review project proposals from all of these countries plus new projects in Kenya and Senegal.

We hope you'll join us in helping this program to grow.
