@Beathame88 Absolutely disagree. He was an actor, but he had also a great voice. In words of Placido Domingo: "If he had made opera instead of cinema he would have become another Caruso". I agree this song is far more beautiful to my ears (and many I know) sung by Mario Lanza.

Was that English? Great voice though!

Corelli had POWER and good looks too!

Its all good ! After all, Captain Peacock on "Are You Being Served" pointed out that the Japanese can't wrap their tongues around their "r's" -- arse ! Someone once pointed out that Corelli always had trouble with the letter "S". I lke it that way. And the Spanish always lisp because one of their kings lisped. So to please the king and make him feel "normal" they to this day lisp! Eisenhower and George Bush could not say nuclear, but Nuculear! Fuggetaboutit!!

@Melomondo yep. He had a fantastic, effectful voice which he unfortunately couldn't modulate in such a way as to make this piece justice. And for all who like to argument; no I don't sing like Corelli - I don't think I could, and I don't pretend to. That does not nullify critique. (It's a ridiculous argument, but better fend it off than not to).
He gave it his all, in his way, which equates to tearing the music and the composer a new one...

Corelli's voice is powerful and masculine as always. Whether tenor, baritone or bass, a male opera singer should always possess a rich, masculine sound and a fiery temperament. Classical music just doesn't work with anything less.

@tenorvoice50 i agree with all your comments. We could not stop laughing at this version unfortunately, as it really does sound like he's singing "thou art my arse supreme".
-
@maxhansendk you are right ,that is what Corelli was a Opera Great! I love Thee is not Oprea. When it came to singing these type of songs in English,Mario Lanza' s voice will never be topped.In my opinion Corelli was thr Greatest Opera Tenor of them all.Although Lanza was not a true Opera singer,he could sing it with the best of them!

@maxhansendk I don't known what i said that was so funny. please refresh my memory. Then I can replie.

@tenorvoice50 HA!ha! ha! ha! ha!
Your comment made my day - I am still laughing writing this!
Mario Lanza, better perform than corelli? wtf? Mario Lanza was an actor, and for that he was able to sing in english, but never compare him to corelli, for the love of God.

This great artist was singing outside his normal musical genre. Seldom does anyone sound really authentic in another language,,,unless it is Nicolai Gedda. It is easy to criticise,,especially when you cannot do it yourself !
