Performing an English version of the song "Solo le pido a Dios" by León Gieco, a singer/songwriter from Argentina. This was recorded at a teach-in on the National Day of Action Against Secret Trials, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on October 20, 2007. The Raging Grannies provided backing vocals. A clip of this made it onto the national news that evening.

  • I am sorry you think that. This is the first negative comment about my version of the song in the several years I have been playing it and the many different versions I have uploaded. I am trying to bring it to a new audience through singing it in English, and so far, I have been successful. It is a very important song with a message that everyone can learn from.

  • This song is the Anthem of the Latin americans, peacefinders, revolutionaries, and the people who seeks the justice in our countries. Thank you very much for giving our song to the English speakers, and I am very proud of your translation and interpretation

  • good job girl!!! hope u still sing it! It´s a great song!! big hug from Argentina!

  • @flutefan I'm argentinian, and he is just angry because he wants everyone to sound like La Negra, but I think is great you've translated it so that non-spanish-speakers can understand it.

obataladance: Hermano, no critiques al pedo, está bueno que el mensaje llegue a la mayor cantidad de gente posible, y no podés pretender que todos suenen como la Negra, que fue una de las mejores voces y de las mejores cantoras que nunca va a dar nuestro suelo.

  • @Obataladance This is no substitute for the spanish version of this song, but it isn't meant to be. I loved being able to hear this direct traslation. I knew the general meaning and a little of the history of "Solo Le Pido A Dios", but something was still missing without understanding the verses.

  • im a latino and an argentinean and im very proud of this version, am also a leon gieco fan and im pretty sure he is proud of you. please ignore the comments of the haters, people got no respect, tnks for playing this song.

  • Awesome! I love it!! Why don't you try to adapt it to English? instead of the literally translation? I like it as it is...but it will be nice to hear an adaptation.

Good Work! The Spanish part gives it a special touch..

  • @Obataladance esta cancion no es de Mersedes Sosa si que es de leon gieco y no es de los latinos solamemte es de todo el mundo, no tiene fronteras ni idioma y por ultimo las canciones que se escriven con el corason nunca van a morir
