Johns arguments about the USA regional hegemony in west Hampshire its quite true that usa can't be the police of the world but can have influence alliance with other regional actors, , the question i have is when states are analyzing their foreign policy do they consider they findings in realist thoughts?

Leaders probably follow their perceived self-interest. Perceived yes, as it is influenced by their norms and ideas on the world.

So yeah, I disagree with Maersheimer, but do think his perspective is a very useful as a perspective on the world and it explains a lot of why the world is at is.
