Is the wood part of the bearing surface? Wouldn't this catch on fire after a bit?

Well, actually, the spinning wheels act as gyros. Otherwise anyone could do an extended track stand and have no trouble.

@mateivornicu similar to a snow shoe, this bike is needed for terrain where you need a larger "footprint" like riding on snow/ice/sand.

No you don't have to move your body to stay upright and No gyroscopic forces are needed either. You stay up by steerting the bicycle side to side to keep it under your center of gravity. Gyroscopic forces are handy for riding no handed.
