Sophie Lancaster (November 26th, 1986 -- August 24, 2007) was a British woman who was brutally attacked with her boyfriend, Robert Maltby while walking through Stubbylee Park in Bacup, Rossendale in Lancashire. As a result of her severe head injuries she went into a coma, never regained consciousness and later died. The police suggested the attack was possibly caused by the couple wearing gothic fashion and being members of the goth subculture.

While returning home, Lancaster and Maltby were subjected to a "vicious mob attack" from "a large group of people" between 01:10 hours and 01:20 hours on Saturday, 11 August 2007, at the skate park area of Stubby Lee Park, Bacup.[2] The couple were walking home and came across a group of teenagers at the entrance to the park. The group followed them but there was no trouble till some of them suddenly assaulted Robert Maltby without provocation. When he was knocked unconscious the gang attacked Sophie Lancaster, who was trying to protect him by cradling him in her arms. One witness a 15-year-old boy, told police: "They were running over and just kicking her in the head and jumping up and down on her head."
Also the two boys that killed Sophie got 18 years and 16 years in prison.
The other three boys that attacked Rob got 4.5,5.5,and 5.5 years.

R.I.P. Sophie you will never be forgotten.

I'm Goth and I was peacefully reading my book when my brothers came over to be and began provoking me and punching my legs and I was ignoring them until one said, "Sophie Lancaster is a goth *****." And that pissed me off sooo much.

What a beautiful young girl and what a beautiful couple you both made. I am so sorry for your loss and I just wanted you to know, you are in my prayers. The evil that others give will be given to them 10 times over. That is the basic wisdom in all things ,what goes around, comes right back around. All because two young beautiful souls decided to wear some piercings and dark clothing??? It is ridiculous and an evil act on their part. Be at peace...God Bless.

It saddens me that this kind of ugliness and hatred still finds a way to exist in this world. How anyone can do such a horrible thing to such a sweet looking couple, and live with their selves, is beyond me. All of my love and prayers go out to a couple of fallen fellow fiends, and fellow human beings, and their families. *HUGS*
