I have been looking for this video for a week now.

The accident occurred during November 2006, onboard the HMAS Kanimbla which was stationed off Fiji -- in the heat of the coup. The helicopter is a Black Hawk. The inquiry released the footage recently, and cited poor weather conditions and a difficult approach as the cause. There were 2 fatalities, the Captain and a Trooper. Captain Mark Bingley's helmet apparently snagged on an antenna while the S-70A-9 (Australian UH-60 Variant) Black Hawk was rapidly sinking, and he was not able to remove it until a depth of 30 meters. He could not be revived. SAS Trooper Joshua Porter suffered injuries during impact, and sank with the helicopter to a depth of about 2500 meters. The weather conditions were a 10-15 knot (18-27kph) tailwind. As seen, the impact with the deck caused the tail rotor to break off, which caused the resulting spin.

  • That thing didn't crash?! It bounced!!

  • GTA IV crash LOL

  • "attempted to land"? more like "attempted to high-five the boat"

still.. two people died. this is tragic and not funny. but in the end, it is probably the pilots fault. the military pushes things too far. (note recent US military mid-air collision). I'm a pilot and the military think they own the skies and the aircraft are toys.. not machines. be safe. a tactical landing (or close formation flight)isn't worth dead men.
