Portal works surprisingly well with Wine 0.9.51 (no tweaking required).

  • whats your computer config?

and you say there really was no extra tweeking involved? somehow, the only thing I can get to work with Wine is that notepad that is delivered with it by default...

  • gentoo ~amd64 (2.6.24-gentoo), NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT and I was using wine 0.9.51 when I recorded that. Still works with 0.9.54.

  • @Timotay where's the need for proof?

  • I have Portal CD... Can i use it to install? Or must it be Download

  • what wre the settings on? i have got to run my portal without any graphic or lag errors.

  • does the compositor mess with this at all?

  • a while ago when i had a mac. i used steam to get portal. but then i had to get rid of my mac so i got an acer with ubuntu. i got steam and got portal back but all i get is a black screen with a mouse and noise and i know that the mouse is working because i actually got into game play but i still could not see anything. i used playonlinux.

  • oh, ok cool. yeah i tried that, i couldn't get it to record. like it said it recorded, then i saved it, the file never showed up and at one point, it gave me an error with my sound card. was very confusing. but ok, cool. thanks.

  • to capture the screen? I use GTK-recordmydesktop. It's in the ubuntu repositories

  • cool, thanks. Yeah I tried this, "-silent -window -novid -dxlevel 80 -width 1024 -height 768", but it still didn't work. so i then took it out and all of a sudden, it worked perfectly. now i just need to figure out how to install glc to capture. i don't know a lot about linux. i rarely use it. if you know how to install it, that would be very helpful. thank you.
