knotts have always i trouble remembering them.

@Mlweitz this is a sheet bend, just made with a loop and passing the rope back through the working end of the loop when the sheet bend is completed, much sturdier if it loosens since the sheet bend only holds firm under tension, if left untensioned, it may untie itself.

Why not just tie a sheet bend?

Just FYI, do not use a bed sheet if you are around 290lbs, 130kg, or about 20 stone. The sheet will rip. Use a stronger material. A person does NOT need to be light weight to use a hammock, the material needs to be strong enough. I sleep in a hammock every night and throught I would try this out to have a cheap hammock I can get dirty on camping trips. Will try with a canvas type material and come back with an update. =D

how much rope did you use?

To clarify my statement: you began with a loop, which is called a prussik loop, used in making a prussik knot. You used that loop to make a sheet bend, and because the rope is doubled up, it becomes a double sheet bend. A very nice setup.
This knot will not come loose. It will actually get tighter when loaded.

Hey Ray, first and foremost, I love the hammock. I made one with my kids and it's brilliant. Secondly, I was looking for an easy way to attach a rope (from a tree) to the fisherman loop that could be easily untied. I dont like the idea of just a sheet bend, as I am using thick rope. I certainly didn't want a bowline or similar to rub and chafe. I was going to use an Ossel hitch, but wasn't sure I could trust it. I went with a "Simple Simon Double" w/ quick release. What do you think?

Thanks for your kind comments.
I like that Simple Simon Double knot. Make sure you get it right so it doesn't slip on you.
You can use the Sheet Bend or a Double Sheet Bend with a Half Hitch to make sure.
Always keep an eye on your knots. It sucks to land butt first on the ground -- don't ask me how I know this!
I like the Clove Hitch on a carabiner myself.

@lnorton89
At 0:32 in the video you can see the Double Fisherman's loop of rope.
Look for the video I have posted on how to tie it. I have many other ways to do this (like with a webbing loop - sewn or tied) on my channel.
Check it out.
