I was blessed with 5 fantastic grandparents, and this is their song. My first grandfather died when I was about 5. My grandmother re-married a great man, and I honer my step-grandfather to.

I wrote an early version of this song 1979 after my second grandfather passed away. I loved that man. I gave an poor recording to my own dad, and I still have a copy today. It was one of the two or three song my dad ever heard me sing. But I never liked the second verse. Ten years later, when my first grandmother passed away, I worked on the song a bit but I just could not make it work. When my second grandmother passed away, about another ten later, I wrote a new second verse. I wanted to sing it at her service, but just cried every time I tried. I still do, as you will hear in voice. I ended up singing I'll Be With You Again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_aX-zUyn0o

Since that time I have often thought about making the best recording that my limited talent would let me, but never got around to it. One week ago, just after I uploaded OZ Never Said, my daughter was in the hospital and my wife's dog passed away, I sat down with this song and changed a few lines that I still did not like in the second verse and wrote the bridge as a message to my children and grand children. My message to them is "Try a little harder next time. Today is the day to make your stand. Youth only happens to you one time. Live life the best you can."

I have just spent the last week on this recording, and the whole day on the video which is full of photo and films of my grandparents. So the copyright on this is by BearRon 1962-1979-1997-2011. Hope you enjoy, and share it with your grandparents.

  • @bearron Ya and you could sing it better too.

  • I keep hearing another guitar part in my head, so I will redo a few parts and upload it again.
