A cold layer of air allowed the light from the mountains to refract in a spectactular way. The same thing happens when with a traditional mirage, only that involves a hot layer of air on the road.

These were the High Wood mountains. The video was taken just outside Great Falls, MT.

    Yep. I just set up the camera & let it record for about an hour. I adjusted the camera only once to get more mountains. Then I repeated the two clips many times with different zooms.
