Their blindness and arrogance are as solid as an iron mountain." - Martin Luther King.
Why do women reject motherhood? Why is infertility seen as a blessing? Why are children born deformed? Why have honeybees become disoriented and even disappeared?
Vexing questions indeed.
So, a few like minded youngsters set out to seek answers. And Project Cardium was born. Project Cardium is a documentary/news video snippet on the victims of endosulfan abuse in Kerala's Kasargode district.
Dr Muhammad Asheel, assistant nodal officer of the Kerala government's Endosulfan Rehabilitation Programme, pioneered the fight for a global ban on endosulfan at the Stockholm Convention 2011, and later at the Supreme Court of India. He has been an immense inspiration to all of us. Dr P V Ramachandran, Ex D.M.E of Kerala, provided deep insights into the history of the illogical use and consequences of endosulfan in Kasargode. Dr Shafeer Babu, medical practitioner, and Sagas, part of the rehabilitation team, arranged for us the interactions with the victims. Without them, we wouldn't have been able to complete the project successfully.
Manoj helped us edit the footage and made himself available at our beck and call. Peter Ivan, our passionate director, shuttled between cities, working with vigour to complete the project. Madhuraj, the photographer who had taken the pictures of the victims of Endosulphan in Kasargode many years ago, shared the photos with us for this good cause.
We are deeply indebted to all of them for making Project Cardium a success.
Now that the Supreme Court has banned endosulfan, let us hope this lethal mist will recede, never to return into the lives of hapless victims and would-be victims.
